Products

K-kit Tool Set

Each tool set includes K-kit Holder, Loading Stage, Needle Pen, Gluing Stand, Channel Opener, sealing glue, mounting glue, glass slides and replacement parts.

Tools are optional available in a Tool Set or ordered individually. The glues are also available from original manufacturers.

Figures are for illustration purposes. The tools you order can be different in color and/or from minor design changes.

1. K-kit Holder K-kit Holder consists of an anodized Aluminum header and a stainless steel handle. The K-kit carrier fits on the header (after removing the bottom compartment). When the grove on the side of the header fits over the horizontal bar on the Loading Stage (see below), the K-kit on the carrier attached on the header will be just above the liquid sample.
2. Sample-loading Stage The Loading Stage consists of a horizontal bar in a recess on the side and a hole in the middle to house the Liquid Stage, which is a removable stainless steel rod. The removable design is for easy cleaning. The horizontal bar defines the rotational axis for the K-kit Holder, which has a notch on the header to fit on the horizontal bar.


( Tool Set for Sample Loading )		When the grove on the header of K-kit Holder fits to the horizontal bar on Sample-loading Stage, the K-kit carrier attached on the header will be just above the drop of liquid sample.

3. Needle Pen The needle pen has a thin needle of 0.27 mm in diameter, 3 mm long. The thin needle makes it convenient to pick just enough glue (of the order of 0.1ul) for sealing the channel openings and ( around 1ul) for mounting the copper grid. The needle is made of stainless steel; it is strong yet slightly flexible, suitable for the job.
Notes: It is important to keep the needle free of residue glue. Please wipe the needle clean right after each use. It will be practically impossible to clean the needle once residue glue on it cures. The needle held in place in the pen by a set screw on the side of the pen. Replacement needle and a small Allen key are provided with each Needle Pen. The needle is sharp. Please handle with care. 4. Gluing Stand The Gluing Stand has a stainless steel base and an anodized aluminum header, which is much like the header on the K-kit holder less the notch on the side. The Gluing Stand keeps the K-kit carrier in place for gluing work.

5. Channel Opener

There’re channel tips on both ends of K-kit, keeping the channel hermetically sealed during shipment and storage, to protect the channel surface from environmental impacts.

A Channel Opener can be used to remove the channel tips, while the K-kit stays on the carrier. And then we have fresh channel surface ready for use.

How to use Channel Opener
1. Locate the slot at the end face of the channel opener.
2. Align the K-kit carrier top plate to the slot.
3. Insert the top plate into the slot, and gently push it all the way to the end.
4. Pull out the K-kit carrier.
5. The K-kit is ready to load.

The channel opener has a self guiding slot and a mechanism to break off the tips before the carrier top plate reaches the end.
To avoid K-kit being damaged, the exerting force doesn’t go beyond 500gf (around 5N).
You may hear a click near the end, when the tips break off.

Note: The debris of broken tips usually will be attached to the sidewalls of the plate underneath. We strongly suggest the user should remove it first by tweezers, before doing the liquid loading process.

Note: If it just with one side of the tips broken off, there’re two remedial ways as described below for consideration.
(a) If the K-kit is still located at the same place, without perceptibly moved or skewed in position, one may consider to use the channel opener again to break off the rest one of tip.


(b) If the K-kit has been shifted the position, one should take down that K-kit from the carrier, and stick it to the adhesive tape on the glass slide. Then, to remove the rest one of tip by tweezers. It’s suggested by using two pairs of tweezes at the same time for the operation, one for fixing and the other for cutting. After it done, put the K-kit back to the same place of the carrier.

If there’s any damage or abnormal change observed in the K-kit structure after using the channel opener, please contact us or our distributors for seeking help for it. (In order for speeding our issue analysis and liable replacement procedures, if possible, please provide the failed k-kit or some clear pictures about it to us at that time.)

6. K-kit Glues & Accessories


Amount of glue in a starter box is prepared for about 50 applications. This is based on the estimation that each time the Sealing glue B is typically taken out about 20mm³ (3 x 3 x 2mm). The actual number of use varies. (Reminder: Torr Seal mixing volume ratio A:B=2:1) Copper grids are shipped along with K-kits, they are not included in starter box. Reuse of tools is encouraged. Please wipe clean the tools immediately after each use to avoid glue curing on them. Once cured, the glue would be hard to remove.
Sealing Glue Sealing glue (blue label) “Torr Seal”, Varian part #9530001 (case A: resin 3 gram, case B: hardener 1.5 gram) Sealing glue is to seal off the liquid from outside (vacuum). It is only needed at the channel openings.
Mounting Glue Mounting glue (red label) Quick Set – 1, KS bond (cases A and B, resin and hardener, 3 gram each) Mounting glue is to protect the Sealing glue and to affix the K-kit chip to the copper grid.
Please be careful not to cap back with wrong vial cover, after the glues used.

Starter Box Starter box is an optional item, made available solely for the convenience of our users. The content in the box are all commercially available products, some are repackaged, and grouped in a box. Frequent users are recommended to acquire them directly from original suppliers.The photographs are for illustration purposes only. Accessory Box In the tool set, spare parts are located in the Accessory box, including a spare needle, an Allen key for Needle Pen and two Liquid Stages.
If the lid of glue vial can not be opened, when the first time using it
	The cap-adhered issue may be occurred sometimes. It’s caused mainly due to the glue somehow being stained and dried on the cap or the bottle mouth of that vial, when it suffers a improper or bumpy treatment during the shipping process. If you encounter this problem, please contact us or our distributors for seeking help or the replacement for it. In order to improve the cap-adhered issue for the first use by customer, the glue vial has been sealed with a tin foil on the bottle mouth for shipping since 1st March of 2018. (As shown on the left side)

Regarding the use and preservation of the K-kit glues
	As picking out the glue for use from the glue vial, please note that to keep the cap and the bottle mouth of that vial free attached of any glue. It’s possible to cause the cap-adhered issue, if there’s glue carelessly remained. After peeling off the sealed foil, the glue vial must be stored face up. If not so, it’s also easy to result in the cap-adhered issue, due to the glue getting flowing inside. After a certain time of storage, the sealing glue of Torr Seal sometimes will be observed with a thin oil-like layer on the glue surface. It is normal and does not affect any gluing application. If it so, please give a stirring first to let it mixed evenly before the use. (As shown on the right side)
